"In the period since fitting a MOBi-lert 7000 system to our vessel in 2006, we have sailed our 15 metre cruising yacht from Fremantle via Hobart to Cairns, back to Southport and now to Darwin.  We are soon to depart for SE Asia.

My wife and I mostly sail "two up".   Should one of us (or another crewperson) go over the side without the other's knowledge, we take constant comfort in the ability of our MOBi-lert system to alarm loudly and immediately log the (GPS) position of the incident.  The Console is mounted in our pilothouse alongside our other instrumentation.

We know that many people wear a personal EPIRB but we strongly believe that one's own vessel, or possibly one or more nearby, can provide the best chance of a timely rescue and recovery, particularly when far away from SAR services.  When on passage, one of our rules is "no one leaves the companionway without having their personal MOBi-lert pendant safely and properly secured".  This is of course complimented by numerous other safety related rules and procedures.

Like all insurance, the name of the game isn't to make a claim. At a very personal level, our MOBi-lert system is no different, but it is there to provide immediate assistance should we need it.  Let's hope we never need it.

We would recommend the system to all long distance cruisers and racers."

""ROMA per 2" is an offshore race run in the Thyrrenian sea, from Civitavecchia (70 km N of Rome), till Lipari Island (10 Nm N of Milazzo in Sicily) passing near Capri and back for a total of 535 Nm; this year the route changed slightly, and passed from cat. 2 to cat.3 according to ORC classification.

I had been thinking about an alarm system for the crew on-deck for many years, especially for when other people are left alone while I'm resting in the cabin. Some years ago I saw the system from Raymarine, but it was not compatible with my instruments. For the "Roma per 2" race this year, thinking again about the night watches alone and to our safety, I decided to search the web for possible alternatives and so discovered the MOBi-lert systems. I chose the 720i as the best option for functionality and price.

During the race we used the system continuously and it gave us a feeling of safety knowing about the alarm and the MOB event location storage as a big increase of probability of rescue; clearly we continued to use the other precautions to avoid the MOB event. The system performance was very good and we had just one false alarm in the 4 days of the race. We wore the pendants without any problem, the charging system was perfect and the total power consumption very low. The system mounting, thanks to the good instructions from Tarquin and to the complete package, was very easy and fast.

In the end I am very satisfied with the MOBi-lert 720i and I would advise its purchase."

"As a yacht delivery skipper, the safety of the yacht and its crew is my responsibility.

Usually just one person is on watch. It's essential that I know they are still aboard and we are not being sailed by an unmanned autopilot into the path of an oncoming ship or other unmovable object.

Before MOBi-lert the only way to confirm this was to regularly go on deck and make sure the crew member was there. But in the last nine months I have traveled over 20,000 nautical miles and for every moment of everyday my crew and I wear a MOBi-lert pendant. The built-in GPS has become our second crosscheck for navigation and a valuable backup if the ship's GPS fails.

I would not go to sea without MOBi-lert. I consider it an essential part of the yacht's safety equipment and a crucial part of my duty of care to my crew and the yacht owners in making sure that our passage is as safe as I can possibly make it."

"As the owner and skipper of the yacht ‘By Order of the Secretary' (BOOTS), which competes regularly in ocean races, my primary concern is for the safety of my crew.

During the past four years BOOTS has competed in many long ocean races, including Melbourne to Osaka, Melbourne to Vanuatu and Vanuatu to Mackay. In addition, the yacht competes in the seven races in and across the Bass Straight each year. As important as a safe race is, man overboard protection is equally important on the return journey home.

I was most conscious of the need for a sophisticated man overboard system prior to entering the 2003 Melbourne to Osaka double-handed race. However, at that time I could not find a satisfactory system.

After seeing the MOBi-lert system demonstrated on The New Inventors TV program, I saw that the system had the features which I considered essential for a man overboard alarm and recovery.

In the long races, where you sail double-handed on a three hour watch system for up to six weeks at a time, I had been concerned about what would happen if one of us went overboard and perhaps not missed until change of watch. Also, in some of our regular Bass Straight races, it concerned me that a foredeck crew member could disappear overboard on a dark night in extreme conditions, despite the fact that we were fully crewed.

Since installing the MOBi-lert system immediately after it became commercially available, I am now confident that I have the best equipment available to provide an alarm in the unfortunate event we have a MOB situation. In addition, the system provides the comfort of immediately storing the co-ordinates of where and when the MOB occurred and gives a bearing back to that position."

George Shaw, Owner and Skipper of BOOTS, 2005/2006 Victorian Offshore Champion

"Thank you for your support with my questions on the installation of the 720i on my 47-foot catamaran. David answered all questions very clearly. The installation went well and was relatively easy. I installed the Alert unit at the chart table, the Antenna is mounted vertically at the cockpit/saloon door, as high as possible and inside the boat. I also connected the GPS to the Alert, the NMEA output to the Raymarine Chart Plotter and added two piezzo alarms (one in each of the cabins where we sleep at sea) to the relay output. I tested the Waypoint output to the chart plotter - works fine (in the future, I may try to connect the relay output of the alert to a relay that I will fit to the man overboard button on the chart plotter, creating a man overboard waypoint.

We are currently sailing from Cairns to Darwin and are about halfway. The unit has been operating well and has given no false alarms. When anchored, I tested its range with the dinghy and it was OK until about six meters behind the boat (which would put it at about 12-14 meters from the antenna).

I am cruising around the world with my family (wife, two kids aged 11 and 13) for over four years, and this device has added considerably to our peace of mind at sea. My wife and I always wear our tags unless we are sleeping. So far, I am impressed with its design, features, construction and usefulness.

I also found the manual to be excellent, well written and clear. The labeling of all the components (e.g. alert for wiring) was excellent too.

I intend adding some positive comments and pictures of your unit to my newsletter circulated to many people and put on our website www.yacht-mahimahi.com."
